Abstract
Open abdomen (OA) is a technique used in certain indications in critically ill trauma and non-traumatic patients. It is associated with a number of potential complications, the most serious of which are the formation of enteroatmospheric fistulas (EAF) and the impossibility of definitive closure of the abdominal cavity.

The primary goal of treating patients with OA is to achieve the closure of the abdominal cavity as soon as possible, immediately after stabilization of vital functions and/or control of the source of intraabdominal infection. Achieving this objective involves a detailed interplay of surgical and intensivist patient management. However, there is still a lack of prospective studies that would provide data guiding the nutritional management of these patients. This review article aims to provide an current view of the management and treatment of patients with OA from intensivist perspectives, including the latest recommendations štúdie (Tab. 3, Fig. 2, Ref. 37).
