SUMMARY
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that is a cause of high morbidity and mortality worldwide. An important part of the defense of the organism against the disease is TLR, and especially TLR type 9, the activation of which leads to the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, as well as the protection of the body from damage to the lung tissue by bacterial flora.
Aim: to determine the level of TLR9 expression on immunocompetent peripheral blood cells in patients with measles infection of varying severity, both with and without complications.
Materials and methods: The study included 65 patients with measles infection, who depending on the severity of the disease and the presence of complications were divided into 4 groups. The control group consisted of 20 healthy donors with no exclusion criteria.
On the day of admission to the hospital the level of TLR9 expression, levels of interleukins 1, 4, 6, 10, IgM, IgA, IgG with the determination of avidity were measured. The correlation analysis between the studied indicators was also carried out.
Results and discussions: There were three type cytokine response normoreaktive, dissociative and hyporeactive. The study of specific immune response indicators showed that the development of measles infection in the adult population occurs against the background of a low level of specific antibodies and their low avidity as well as a decrease in the overall immunoreactivity of the body. Study of the level of TLR9 expression, compared with the control group, demonstrated an increase in their expression in patients with normoreacyive type of a cytokine response and a decrease in their expression in patients with dissociative and hyporeactive types of a cytokine response.
The correlation analysis between the studied parameters showed a direct correlation between the level of TLR9 expression, the levels of proinflammatory cytokines and IFNa and IFNγ.
Conclusions: The severity of measles infection is associated with the level of TLR9 expression.
The level of TLR9 expression is directly correlated with the activity of production of proinflammatory cytokines, IFNa and IFNγ, and can be considered as a factor affecting the state of the immune response to measles infection.
